McCrispy: Every Version, Calories, Price and vs McChicken

Updated 3 September 2026 470 calories · 26g protein Verified by our pricing team

The McCrispy is 470 calories with 26g of protein — a whole chicken fillet rather than a formed patty, which is the entire difference between it and a McChicken.

Table of Contents

A McCrispy is 470 calories with 26g of protein, at around $5.99. Southern-style fried chicken fillet, crinkle-cut pickles, and a toasted buttered potato roll. That is the whole sandwich — no lettuce, no sauce, nothing else.

McDonald's built this line to compete in the crispy chicken sandwich war, and the strategy was simplicity: a big fillet, good pickles, a proper roll, and no distractions. Four versions now sit on the permanent menu, with limited-edition variants rotating through on top. This page covers every one of them with calories, the comparison people search for most, and the Gold Sauce edition that ran last September. The full range is on our McDonald's chicken menu, and the whole board is on the McDonald's menu with prices.

The plain version is the point, not a compromise. McDonald's built it with nothing but pickles because the crispy chicken sandwich war was being fought on the fillet and the bun. Adding lettuce and tomato costs 50 cents and around 60 calories, so the Deluxe beats customising the standard one.

McCrispy vs McChicken

The chicken itself is the difference. One uses a whole southern-style fried fillet; a McChicken uses a formed, breaded patty. That is why the protein gap is so wide despite the calorie gap being modest.

Price

$5.99$3.79+$2.20
You pay $2.20 more for 12g of extra protein. On protein alone that is decent value, but the McChicken is still the cheaper sandwich by a clear margin and sits on value menus this range never does. If protein per dollar is what you want, a McDouble beats both at 22g for $3.49.

Which should you order?

For real chicken texture and a proper fillet, take it. For a cheap sandwich that does the job, the McChicken. They are aimed at different things: one competes with Chick-fil-A and Popeyes, the other has anchored McDonald's value menu since 1980.

McCrispy calories and nutrition

470 for the standard version, rising to 530 for the Spicy and Deluxe and 640 for the bacon editions. All are McDonald's published figures except where noted.

It has the best protein-to-calorie ratio of any sandwich under 500 calories. 26g for 470 works out at 5.5g per 100, which beats a Big Mac at 4.2g while coming in 120 calories lighter and carrying a gram more protein. Every figure is on our McDonald's calorie list.

Allergens

Contains wheat from the breading and the potato roll, plus milk and soy. The Deluxe versions add egg through the mayonnaise. The fillet is fried in shared oil at most restaurants, so cross-contact applies — full detail on our McDonald's allergen menu.

The Gold McCrispy and Special Edition Gold Sauce

McDonald's launched the Special Edition Gold Sauce on 3 September 2025 — a vinegary North Carolina barbecue blend with honey, smoke and mustard — and put it on four chicken items, including two new sandwiches in this range.

The Gold run launched in September 2025 as a limited edition, while supplies lasted. McDonald's set no end date and has announced nothing for 2026. If a page describes the Gold McCrispy as currently on sale, it is describing last autumn. Check the app with your restaurant selected before making a trip.

Why McDonald's keeps launching sauces

Gold followed Sweet & Spicy Jam and Mambo in 2023, and a Nether Flame Sauce tied to the Minecraft Movie Meal. The company has said it wants to grow its share of the chicken market through 2026, and limited sauces are a cheap way to make existing items feel new without changing the kitchen.

McCrispy price and the meal

Around $5.99 for the standard sandwich at our national midpoint and $6.49 for a Deluxe. Franchisees set their own board, so the spread runs from roughly $4.99 to $7.49.

Two Snack Wraps instead

Same chicken, less money
$5.9866028g
Two Snack Wraps cost a penny less and give you 2g more protein. They use the same strips, just in tortillas rather than on a roll. The sandwich wins on texture and the fillet, but if the chicken is what you are after, the wraps are the more efficient order.

Prices are a national midpoint recorded from restaurant menu boards in August 2026 and vary by location. Calorie figures for the standard, Spicy, Spicy Deluxe and Bacon Gold versions are McDonald's published US data; others are calculated estimates. The full chicken range is on our McDonald's chicken menu, nugget figures on the Chicken McNuggets page, and the full board on the McDonald's menu with prices.

McCrispy FAQ

How many calories in a McCrispy?

470 with 26g of protein. The Spicy and Spicy Deluxe versions are both 530, and the Bacon Gold edition is 640. All are McDonald's published figures.

McCrispy vs McChicken: what's the difference?

The chicken. One uses a whole southern-style fried fillet; a McChicken uses a formed breaded patty. That gives 26g of protein against 14g for 70 more calories and about $2.20 more.

How much is a McCrispy?

Around $5.99 at our national midpoint, $6.49 for a Deluxe. Rural restaurants run closer to $4.99 and airport locations to $7.49. Franchisees set their own board.

What's on a McCrispy?

A southern-style fried chicken fillet, crinkle-cut pickles, and a toasted buttered potato roll. That is all — no lettuce, no sauce. The minimalism is deliberate.

Is the Gold McCrispy still available?

It launched on 3 September 2025 as a limited edition while supplies lasted, and McDonald's has announced nothing for 2026. Check the app with your restaurant selected — if it is not listed there, it is not available.

What is Special Edition Gold Sauce?

A vinegary North Carolina barbecue sauce with notes of honey, smoke and mustard. It ran on four chicken items from September 2025: two bacon McCrispy sandwiches, a Gold Snack Wrap at $2.99, and as a side dip with McCrispy Strips.

How many calories in the Spicy version?

530, which is 60 more than the standard version. The Spicy Pepper Sauce accounts for the difference. The Spicy Deluxe is also 530 despite adding lettuce and tomato.

What is the Deluxe version?

The standard sandwich with shredded lettuce, Roma tomatoes and mayonnaise added. It costs about 50 cents more and adds roughly 60 calories. A Spicy Deluxe swaps the mayo for Spicy Pepper Sauce.

Is it good for protein?

It has the best protein-to-calorie ratio of any sandwich under 500 calories — 26g for 470, or 5.5g per 100. A Big Mac manages 4.2g. On protein per dollar, though, a McDouble still wins.

Is it the same chicken as a Snack Wrap?

Close. The Snack Wrap uses a strip rather than the full fillet. Two wraps cost about the same as one sandwich and give you 2g more protein.

Prices shown are based on typical U.S. McDonald’s menu prices as of August 2026 and may vary by location. Check your local restaurant or McDonald’s app for the latest prices.
