A McDouble costs $3.49 and carries 390 calories with 22g of protein. The only thing separating it from a Double Cheeseburger is one slice of cheese.
A McDouble contains 390 calories, 22g of protein and 20g of fat, and costs $3.49 at the national midpoint. Two beef patties, one slice of cheese, pickles, onions, ketchup and mustard. It carries the best protein per dollar of any burger McDonald's sells.
McDonald's added the McDouble to the Dollar Menu in 2008 as a cheaper answer to the Double Cheeseburger, and the design was deliberate: drop one slice of cheese, keep both patties, charge less. Eighteen years later it is still the value pick, and it sits on the Under $3 McValue menu at participating restaurants. This page covers the price, the full macros, how it differs from the Double Cheeseburger, and the calorie counts for ordering it without the bun or cheese. Prices for the rest of the range are on our McDonald's burgers menu, and the full board is on the McDonald's menu with prices.
Our surveyed national midpoint is $3.49. This is one of the few items where McDonald's runs an advertised value price at participating restaurants, so some boards list it under three dollars on the McValue menu while others sit closer to $4.50.

Two 1.6oz beef patties seasoned with salt and pepper only, one slice of American cheese, pickle slices, chopped onions, ketchup and mustard, on a toasted regular bun. Contains wheat, milk, soy and sesame. There is no plant-based version on the US menu.
One slice of cheese. That is the entire difference, and everything else follows from it. Same two patties, same bun, same pickles, onions, ketchup and mustard. McDonald's created it in 2008 precisely so it could sell a double-patty burger at a lower price by removing that one slice.

If you want the extra melt, take the Double Cheeseburger. If you are counting calories, sodium or money, this one wins on all three while giving you the same amount of beef. That second slice sits between the patties, so it does change the texture noticeably even though it changes very little else.
Most guides publish the standard 390 and stop there. If you are eating low carb, keto or dairy free, the number you actually need is different, and McDonald's will make any of these modifications at no extra charge.

These modified figures are calculated by subtracting McDonald's published component values and are close approximations rather than official numbers. McDonald's does not publish nutrition for customised orders. Note that a bunless McDouble is still not gluten free, because the kitchen is not a gluten free environment.
Two different bundles use this burger and they are easy to confuse. The $5 Meal Deal is the McValue bundle with nuggets included. The standard value meal is the ordinary combo with medium fries and a medium drink.

22g, which is 44% of the daily value. At 5.6g per 100 calories and 6.3g per dollar, it carries the best protein-per-dollar ratio of any burger McDonald's sells — better than a Big Mac at 3.9g.

On protein per dollar it is the best burger on the menu. 22g for $3.49 beats every other option, and the $5 Meal Deal beats it again. The trade-off is 850mg of sodium, which is 37% of the daily recommendation.

Priya has tracked fast food pricing since 2019. Every figure on this page comes from our own field survey: eight researchers photograph restaurant menu boards at 62 locations across 14 states in the first week of each month, and we publish the median. We do not use app pricing, which runs higher, and we do not carry figures forward from a previous month without re-checking them.
